But why would you think that? You were really nice to me and you helped me out a lot! That doesn't make you useless, that makes you useful!

[Well, all right. The kid really is a nice kid. Komaeda takes a moment to text him a map with directions. That's easier than explaining, he figures.] There. Does that help?

[For a moment, Takeru and Patamon just looked at the map before looking back at each other. With that, the boy gave a giggle]

Thanks, that makes it a lot easier to find you! We had a lot of trouble finding a bunch of other people who helped us but you're the first to give us directions!

[/blunt]

It's tough to get used to. This makes it easier.

[He's been here for a while, after all. So it's a handy little file he keeps on hand.

[With that, off Takeru goes to find the mysterious Nagito! Of course, it didn't take him all that long with the directions he gave him. As he held the sunflowers in his hand, he made sure that it didn't die on him!

It was like being on a secret mission to go off and find a rare item for the king! However, when he finally saw Nagito in the distance? He started waving his hand toward him!]

Nagito-san! There you are, I hope that I didn't keep you waiting for long! And I hope you like these sunflowers, I didn't know if you might like them or not!

[And Komaeda will raise a and in greeting. He shakes his head at what Takeru has to say.]

I haven't been waiting long at all. It's fine. [It's actually just outside his apartment building anyway.]

It's very pretty, really!

[Once Takeru and Patamon got closer to him, hope he doesn't mind the boy just shoving the flowers right at him!]

Really? Then that's great, I was worried you wouldn't! I know girls like flowers a lot but I don't know if boys do too! And I didn't know what else to get you so...

[Mumble mumble] I could have gotten you something else if you really don’t like them.

[Komaeda takes the flower with a smile. Cute kid. He holds it up to look at the flower better.]

Actually, I like flowers a lot too, even if I'm not a girl. So I'm grateful.

[Yup. He glances back down.] Besides, I'm not the sort of person used to getting gifts, so it's extra nice in my case.

You don't get a lot of gifts? But why, that's not a very nice thing to do!

[Well, that changes everything!]

Not even on your birthdays? You don't even get any presents? At all?

[No seriously, how does that work??? This needs to be fixed immediately!!]

Well... maybe more recently than I used to. But mm. It's still pretty novel! Hinata-kun got me a cake on my last birthday. It was the first time anyone had gotten me a birthday present since my parents died.

[But he has a Hinata now! So that helps. And here's a nice kid giving him flowers. So really he can't complain at all.]

[And then things just got awkward. The moment he heard his parents died, he immediately gave him a concerned look]

Oh...I'm sorry, I didn't know that. It must be pretty lonely spending all those birthdays without your parents isn't it? But that means I need to give you a lot of presents to make it up to you!

[Komaeda is good at awkward, kiddo. It's one of his few skills. But he's smiling at that.]

There's really no need for you to worry about it. This is a nice enough gesture already. [He glances down at the flower for emphasis.] More importantly, are you managing to settle in okay? This place can be strange to get used to.

Yeah but...it still doesn't seem very fair. I just don't want you to be sad.

[While Takeru knew he probably couldn't do anything to make up for the missed birthdays, he still wanted to try!]

But I'm doing okay! It's a lot harder than I thought since I'm living with Patamon but I think I can handle it! It sure takes a lot of work to be a grown up though!

I'm not sad! I'm really exceptionally lucky to have the things I do now.

[And his bad luck has yet to catch up to him to balance it out. How frightening to think about.

But his expression falters just momentarily as Takeru goes on. Ah...]

That's definitely true. It's not exactly easy to suddenly find yourself stepping into that role. I'm glad you have Patamon with you, since at the very least, I think it helps to be around someone else to lean on even just a little.

[But umm...] Do you think it will be too much work?

Well if you say so? But if you need anything, you can always tell me! The last thing I want is to see my friends sad! And especially when they don't have a lot of birthdays either!

[Takeru didn't know what happened to Nagito but whatever it was? He could already tell that it wasn't a pleasant one. Just what kind of person doesn't have that many birthdays anyway??

However, his words made Takeru pause for a moment. While he looked at Patamon, he looked back at the older boy shortly afterwards]

...It might? But I just don't want other people to worry about me? It seems like they have a lot of other stuff to do and I really don't want to bother them.

And I am have to grow up sooner or later so...why not?

[Cute kid. Komaeda, however, is really a little concerned because he did the whole staying on his own growing up at a young age getting zero help, and it did not work out well for him in a lot of ways.]

Friends tend to worry about friends. Isn't that the way it goes? I don't think it's a bad thing for people to worry over you, especially if you'd worry over them in return. Isn't that what caring about someone means?

[A pause and a shrug.] Then again, trash like me probably has something in that idea wrong. I'm not very good at friendships.

[Well. Takeru never thought about it that way before. That was why when he wanted to say something? Nothing came out in return. Instead, he just let that sink in for a few moments before he finally respond]

Yes, you're right, it does. I care a lot about my friends and my friends do care a lot about me. Maybe...it wouldn't be fair to keep them from worrying about me.

[A beat] And especially to someone like you! You're not trash, you're my friend! You shouldn't say that about yourselves, you should be brave!

That's probably true. People feel what they feel, and that's probably a good thing.

[Komaeda pauses at that. Be brave, huh? He smiles and nods.] I'll try to be brave. I'm trying to be better.

But you should be brave too. And sometimes the bravest thing is being brave enough to ask for help, don't you think? [Komaeda nods before adding,] My parents died when I was pretty young, and I was on my own entirely after that. So maybe even someone like me can understand, just a little.

But...I think you're braver than me.

I still have my mom and dad even if they're not together anymore. I don't know what it would feel like to lose the both of them so I think you should say that you're brave.

[Give yourself some more credit, Nagito!!]

But maybe we can both be brave together! How about I'll try my best and ask for help whenever I need it and in return? You need to say that you're brave 10 times every single day to yourself!
