Did you get some kind of message from a-- [pause while he quickly checks] --"CERES Date"? 'Cause I did. And I don't remember signing up for something like that.
[Hinata you're adorable. Komaeda is doing his very best to look serious about this, nodding.]
Well, I'm really glad you didn't sign up for something like that. It wouldn't speak very well at all for my performance if you did. [It may or may not sound like he means that in the most r-rated way it can be taken.]
But I did get one too! [And then, hurriedly.] I didn't sign up either, of course! There's no way I would. Hajime-kun's performance is top notch. [No dating services for Komaeda he has the best boyfriend.]
[It's sort of like a fairytale. At the stroke of midnight, the magic dissolves and everything goes back to the way it should be. Kamukura is awake just before midnight, wide awake, sitting on the edge of the bed. His mind is ever a hive of information, though he's not thinking about one thing in particular, just letting it scroll.
From the living room, he thinks he can hear the deep breaths of Komaeda sleeping, glances toward the doorway--
And the clock passes over to midnight.
...eh?
You're back, Hajime.
I was... wait, you...
I've been bored waiting all this time for you. And in a rush of sound, feeling, sensation, everything, Hinata gasps quietly and brings his hand up to his forehead, his vision swimming. He feels as though he's been somewhere underwater for a long time (though it's only been a few days), or like he's only truly experiencing living after too long a time from it. Seeking something steady, he gropes at his neck and finds his ring, on his necklace.
He grips it tight in his hand, the cool metal slowly warming in his fingers, and glances around. Memories come back in flickers and flashes, who he spoke to, what happened, everything Kamukura said, damn it he said unnecessary things to too many people.
And, Komaeda...
He stands. Walks hesitantly toward the living room, finding his footing as his mind is still reeling still, emotions throbbing through him too noisily. What a racket. But they're welcome. And he sees a tuft of pale hair over the back of the couch, hesitates, loathe to wake him. So he circles around, perching on the very edge of the couch and moving one hand to smooth over Komaeda's hair.]
[Komaeda has to admit that Kamukura being present hasn't been entirely bad. He's at least known that Hinata was safe, that he was eating and sleeping enough to keep himself alive without Komaeda having to force him into it. But even if he's grateful -- for the odd comfort that person offered too -- he's missed Hinata.
It feels too strange, though, to sleep in their bed, his and Hinata's, when it's very clear that the other boy is not himself. It's colder than it normally is.
So he stays up later, tries to distract himself with a book in those evenings. There's been nothing he's been able to figure out to do, to end this, change it. He's exhausted, physically and emotionally. So sleep has a good hold on him.
Until that touch, soft and warm through his hair. He stirs with a soft hum, eyes blinking open slowly, peeking up at what he expects to be Kamukura. Is something wrong?]
Mm? [A curious, murmured sound, wordless but clearly questioning.]
[Because Hinata's timing is Perfect, we can assume that the time that he's choosing to bother his boyfriend is right when said boyfriend is probably in the middle of reading something. As you would. Komaeda will feel the hands on his shoulders first from behind... and then weight and a chin on top of his head, the way Hinata's shoulders shake briefly as he fights off a ticklish sneeze as hair rubs his nose.
Evenings are usually the quiet parts of the day, since that's when Hinata doesn't have to work-- and he's happy with just quiet evenings but right now... No.]
Nagitooo.
[...one wouldn't think that Hinata was the pestery kind of boyfriend and normally he's not but even he has his moments. He'd been compiling some information, jotting down the most recent happenings in the colony earlier, but he's all finished that now and it seems a good time to bother the hell out of Komaeda.]
[In fairness, Komaeda spends a surprising amount of his time (his not-harassing-Hinata time anyway) curled up reading. It's always been a nice, safe habit. The worst luck that usually attaches itself to reading a book is a paper cut, after all. Though really, his luck has mostly left him be here -- at least when Hinata is around anyway. Funny how that works.
He doesn't jolt, but he does startle as those hands land on his shoulders. Blinking he tilts his head back a bit but there's a chin resting on his head so it's a bit hard to see him.]
Hajime?
[What is up? Komaeda thought Hinata was working, but now he's being pestered. Which isn't super common so he's pretty curious. He sets his finger in his page, half closing his book.] Did yu need something?
What can you tell me about a man named Yata Misaki?
[No actual greeting... rude. Peko might have made herself an enemy in her search for Kuzuryuu earlier in the day. Whoops. She might not like Komaeda very much, but even she has to admit that he's very good at uncovering information.]
Had an x-ray done today. Guess what they found? It was you, safely tucked away in my heart! They said my heart is fine with a friend like you in it. Send this to all the people you love and care for, if you get 5 back no one will break your heart. XXX
Though, I guess that last part doesn't hold up for you, if what I've heard is true!
[at the very least it can be taken as "i'd happily have a threesome if hinata's okay with it" do you regret re-befriending him, komaeda]
Did you hear something in particular, Hanamura-kun?
[Do tell please. Komaeda has missed the threesome subtext! Tragic as that is, straight over his head, so he has no regret at all! Yay friends! And umm chain letters!!]
Though wait. Do I send this back to you? But then would you have to send it back to me? How does the cycle break? It seems pretty infinite.
[ A message pops up in your inbox from an anonymous source. How strange! If you don't delete it immediately, you'll be greeted with an audio message that's quiet, at first. In fact, it's quiet enough that just in time for you to turn it up, it starts to speak. It sounds suspiciously like Xerxes Break if you know him, but at the same time, there's a totally stupid voice being used, since it's not like Break would send this message along. Emily, though? Of course. She's such a gossip. ]

HOME. Hinata's tiredly pushing his way inside after another day of work, stretching and working tense shoulders with a light grimace.] I'm home-- Nagito?
[He glances up and around as he gets to working off his shoes in the entryway.]
[Komaeda pokes his head around the corner at the sound of Hinata's voice.]
Welcome home, Hajime!
[He's been cleaning the house, so his hair is half pulled back (half was all that would cooperate) into a little ponytail, sleeves rolled up. That doesn't stop him from trotting over to drop a quick peck of a kiss to his cheek.] Long day at work?
[Okay, needless to say, Hinata's been thinking ever since that invitation showed up in his inbox. And he finally came to a decision on what he's going to do, and it's going to be great. Or, really really dorky and Komaeda's going to laugh at him for it later.
Either way, it's not really a losing situation.
He slips out of bed quietly as he usually does to get ready for work, giving Komaeda's hair a gentle fluffing before going to shower. And then, in the living room, he sets up a bouquet of flowers he might have picked up on the way home from work yesterday along with a simple card that reads:
I, Hinata Hajime, formally ask you, Komaeda Nagito, to attend the ball with me.
And in tinier text down at the bottom: Tell me your answer when I get home? Because he'll be sneaking out and leaving the set-up for a surprise. And also he can't help but be dorky and... thinking about this will get him through the work day!!]
[You know who woke up and went about his routine for a good long while -- make the bed, tidy the room, shower, dress, try to tame his hair (fail at taming his hair) -- before making his way into the living room, half on his way to the kitchen to find breakfast when the flowers catch his eye.
He stops, tilts his head quizzically before, well, investigating.
When he reads the note (dorky dorky note how adorable it's adorable he can't... how does he handle this?) he finds himself in some strange mix of beaming and blushing and he spends a good long time before looking from the card to the flowers and bacl.
Tell Hinata his answer. Does the other really think he'd say anything but yes of course. Going to the ball with Hinata! It's definitely exciting!
So at the end of the day he will be waiting with his response, of course!]
[You might think "oh, well, Hinata had to have cute plans for Christmas morning for Komaeda, right?" And that would be true. He'd had plans last night, had set out ingredients to get up and make breakfast in the morning, but.
...
...He's accidentally slept in, a rare occasion, something that barely even happens anymore. Maybe he tuckered himself out yesterday scampering around with gifts for people? But he's still wrapped around Komaeda as the morning marches along, with his arms and a leg thrown over him, his face wedged right into his neck, breathing in content puffs.]
[You know what the very best Christmas present in the entire world is? Because Komaeda has discovered it. And it's waking up with your boyfriend still wrapped around you all asleep and warm and adorable.
Really. Hinata is so bad at relaxing and sleeping in that this is a rare treat really, and even if Komaeda has a few things he has planned for Christmas morning too, well, he can't bring himself to want to move.
So he lies awake, enjoying the warmth and closeness, dozes off a bit before stirring again and lifting a hand to pet at Hinata's hair gently. Best Christmas ever.]
Komaeda-san? Sorry to bother you... [ If he's bothering you. Naegi has no idea if he is or isn't, but he's been known to apologize for dumb things preemptively, mostly because his classmates have trained him that way. Welp. ]
It's about that New Year's thing. I don't know if you ran into her at the ball, but it seems that Kirigiri-san is also here. I was wondering if she could also go? I don't want to leave her on her own on a holiday...well, she'd probably say she wouldn't mind it, but I'd worry about it.
[ Anyway, he thinks maybe even if she would claim not to mind being alone, she'd be lonely. 8|a But that could be Naegi being Naegi. ]
I'm sorry to make such a bothersome request...but I also did want to ask if there was any way I could help you with that party, since I realize I didn't offer before.
[Wait. That's usually his line. He's the bother. Like Naegi "I have hope coming out my ears" Makoto could be a bother to him. Really. Jeez.]
I didn't! [But he's aware of her since Hinata ran into her and they tend to exchange information like they're preparing for a school trial all the time.] But of course she can. It wouldn't be right to leave Kirigiri-san out. She's definitely invited as well.
[No leaving her lonely or not lonely or pretending not to be lonely. Just bring her to the nerd party.] It's definitely not bothersome! [They're both too polite here this could turn into an infinite feedback loop.] If you want to help, I wouldn't mind a hand setting things up before hand.
[It might've been surprising for Komaeda, for an unconscious (and bleeding from several bullet grazes on him) Hinata to be suddenly returned home carried by a bunch of androids. Even more so that they seemingly had a key to the door and just let themselves in; given, of course, that he was home at the time.
But a short time after that, after the androids carried him right to his bed...
Hinata jerks awake violently, gasping, feeling woozy and confused and why is there only black on one side of his face. He lifts a hand and gropes but his eye is still there. It is, and yet.
Blindness? Amaurosis fugax? The cause was whatever it was that shorted out earlier. What have they done to me? To us? No, I can guess. It'd make sense. He rubs his palm restlessly over that eye, recalling that time with the tear gas, being unable to see except in a blur of colour. His chest heaves and he fights down a swell of panic. Can't see, can't see, can't see.
Without thinking about it, he's raising his voice to call out, recognising the softness of the mattress under his back.]
[Komaeda is surprised. Surprised and horrified. He's been worried anyway, not going with him. But it seemed safer for at least one of them to stay back in case things went wrong -- because it really seemed to good to be true in the end.
But now, as the door opens and Hinata, his Hinata, unconscious and being carried by androids and bleeding, is brought through the door, Komaeda feels his heart drop to the pit of his stomach, eyes widening. Too good to be true. SOmething terrible has happened, and he wasn't there.
He's on his feet immediately, and as soon as Hinata is in bed, Komaeda will check him over, try to wake him. When that doesn't work, he'll fret, try to distract himself with bandaging and tending to the more obvious wounds, hoping desperately that he'll wake up.
He's still sitting in a chair by the bed, watching him breathe when Hinata starts moving, starts stirring. Relief and a fresh wave of fear race through him, and he's moving towards him even as he hears his back being called.]
I'm here. I'm right here, Hajime. You're home. [He stands only to move to the bed, reach out to take one of Hinata's hands in his own.]
It's a habit, Hinata might say. Anytime anyone important to him goes missing, especially when those people are his classmates... no matter how many times he's searched only to get the exact same results, he does it anyway. Every single time. He himself knows... it's fruitless. Nothing's going to change. He doesn't even know if he holds a hope of finding them.
However, he can't stop himself from doing it.
Letting himself back inside with a soft "I'm back", he glances to see if Komaeda's back yet. He'd spoken with him earlier about Pekoyama, Kuzuryuu, Tanaka, they'd looked together at the directory of people and such, didn't see their names, agreed to split up to look around...
Either way, home or not home, when he's there, Komaeda can expect to be dragged down to the couch, for Hinata to sprawl, wrap his arms around his hips and bury his face against his stomach.]
[Komaeda returns not long after. Really it's become almost something of a ritual by now, the realization that their classmates are gone, the futile search that neither of them can really bring themselves not to do, even if the outcome is pretty certain each and ever time.
But home to Hinata -- who is still there, and that, Komaeda tells himself, is what matters most, selfish as that is -- and he's far too content to let himself be dragged to the couch.
Fingers find their way to run through Hinata's hair, mussing dark strands before sorting them back into order, repeating again and again and again.] No sign at all of anything? [Of where any of them have gone? Same as usual.]
[Hinata is shirtless (too hot hot damn no he really is rather built, though that waist of his still tends to be on the trim side) and wiping sweat from his brow as he steps back from his creation. It's a grass hut of sorts, made out of leaves, fronds, and snaking vines. It's a lot like Flynn's, thanks to Flynn letting him look at his own place.
It's not luxurious but it is livable, and he pops his head inside to look around, feeling proud of himself. Nodding to himself, Hinata props his hands against his hips and glances around for Komaeda.]
[So. The jungle does have its perks. Komaeda can't quite stop that thought from cropping up as he glances over to watch Hinata finishing his impressive feat of jungle architecture. The shirtless look works for him. OR at least it works for Komaeda... who is probably supposed to be doing something.
...what was he doing again?
Oh right! Gathering up softer, dryer looking foliage to line the floor of their new abode. So his arms are at least half full when he realizes Hinata's looking at him. Blink.]
It's sort of cute, Hajime. [Cute grass hut home away from home.]
Hope you don't mind waking up to feeling like something's gripping you tight around the waist. Because that's what Hinata is doing. After startling awake to find himself in bed and find a robot in his place (he kicked it out ASAP of course), he went right back to bed.
To solidly wrap himself around Komaeda as much as possible. His face is buried in his chest, cheek mashed against it, eyes clenched shut as he listens for his heartbeat.]
[Komaeda is fast asleep still. The sheer effort he put into being unhappy about the last bit of fun in the jungle. Not fun at all. Being thrown into strangeness yet again without his being asked if it was okay. And he was separated from Hinata, and he's pretty sure that's when terrible things happen.
But the arms around him, the warmth, slowly it has him waking up.] Mm..?
[Eyes flutter open and he looks down. A hand lifts to sift through Hinata's hair.] Hajime? [Still sleepy give him a second. He'll wake up and realize how relieved he is in a moment.]

And in tinier text down at the bottom: Tell me your answer when I get home? Because he'll be sneaking out and leaving the set-up for a surprise. And also he can't help but be dorky and... thinking about this will get him through the work day!!]
sort-of action!!
So at the end of the day he will be waiting with his response, of course!]

...He's accidentally slept in, a rare occasion, something that barely even happens anymore. Maybe he tuckered himself out yesterday scampering around with gifts for people? But he's still wrapped around Komaeda as the morning marches along, with his arms and a leg thrown over him, his face wedged right into his neck, breathing in content puffs.]
action; 12/25
Best Christmas ever.]

voice; 12/27 feel free to ignore this until post-ball, i just didn't want to forget
I'm sorry to make such a bothersome request...but I also did want to ask if there was any way I could help you with that party, since I realize I didn't offer before.
voice; 12/27

[Maybe? Not in the apartment! And he'll try to stay away from them himself, just, you know. Because.]

Nagito...!

Either way, home or not home, when he's there, Komaeda can expect to be dragged down to the couch, for Hinata to sprawl, wrap his arms around his hips and bury his face against his stomach.]
no subject
But home to Hinata -- who is still there, and that, Komaeda tells himself, is what matters most, selfish as that is -- and he's far too content to let himself be dragged to the couch.
Fingers find their way to run through Hinata's hair, mussing dark strands before sorting them back into order, repeating again and again and again.] No sign at all of anything? [Of where any of them have gone? Same as usual.]

action! IN THE JUNGLE THE MIGHTY JUNGLE
Nodding to himself, Hinata props his hands against his hips and glances around for Komaeda.]
no subject
...what was he doing again?
Oh right! Gathering up softer, dryer looking foliage to line the floor of their new abode. So his arms are at least half full when he realizes Hinata's looking at him. Blink.]
It's sort of cute, Hajime. [Cute grass hut home away from home.]

action; the day they got back!!
His face is buried in his chest, cheek mashed against it, eyes clenched shut as he listens for his heartbeat.]
no subject
But the arms around him, the warmth, slowly it has him waking up.] Mm..?
[Eyes flutter open and he looks down. A hand lifts to sift through Hinata's hair.] Hajime? [Still sleepy give him a second. He'll wake up and realize how relieved he is in a moment.]
