Oh I'm sure some are, without a doubt. But since all of us were brought here in the same manner and with the same explanation, maybe a lot of best interests are lining up in some way.
[Finding out the truth is probably good, right? Well, Komaeda thinks so anyway. And then when things go awfully wrong and there's murdering clowns and such, banding together seemed to be popular enough as well.]
I think so too. I'd like to see progress myself anyway.
Seems likely enough. Either way, there's still a lot of people walking around here offering help. Which... is more than I would have expected.
[not that he can't think of a few reasons why it would be beneficial beyond being legitimately kind and selfless, but his experience is that there's either something major to gain from it, or they just... don't get involved at all. so it's a bit surprising, but not enough for him to really find it obscenely strange.]
It kinda sounds like most people wanna see progress. Hard not to, when you're being pulled away from your own life on someone else's whim. [he's not amused by this. he's got a world to save and all.]
[So much hopefulness! That's what Komaeda thinks anyway, or wants to think. His experiences that have led him to this place though, they do make him wary. Despite himself.]
On their whim and subject to their... mistakes. [So many mistakes. If they are mistakes. Komaeda has gotten to really mistrust glitches and spam here.]
[that's one way of looking at it, though he's not exactly sure he would personally see it that way. but hey, whatever gets someone through their day, right?]
...Their mistakes? [that, though, is something he really needs to know more about. it earns him a raise of a brow, because that sounds too important to not question a little deeper.]
[That's where Komaeda is pinning his hope now anyway. For the moment.
He nods at that echoed question.] That's right. Glitches is what they get called sometimes. So far the robots have accidentally turned on the new arrivals and tried to kill them, the climate control broke down and we all nearly froze to death, the power went out and a 'murder game' happened. And before I arrived here, there was something about pretty nasty food poisoning and illness.
[It's a great place, pull up a chair stay awhile.]
Sounds... charming. So are these guys just bumbling idiots, or is there something else about this I'm supposed to know here?
[because honestly, it seems like it could go either way. he's met his fair share of idiots with power and people who barely seem to be able to get one foot in front of the other without tripping... but he's also met his share that her deceptive and manipulative. it's kind of hard to tell where this falls, or if komaeda even knows doe sure himself.
even if he doesn't know what all the stuff being mentioned is specifically, yuri's getting enough of an idea here that that the tech is crazy and when it goes wrong, it goes severely wrong. and that's enough for him. though the food poisoning sounds. awful.]
Hmm! That's the real question, isn't it? It's difficult to say. At the very least, if it's genuine ineptitude, it's impressive.
[Komaeda's vote is "intentional" or "dealing with more sabotage than they're admitting" but all his ideas are still just theories that he's yet to find any real evidence to back up.
It's a problem.]
Whatever the real reason, until we know, it's best to be wary anyway.
[He is so thoroughly jealous, Naegi. And there are no talents to point out. Just Komaeda's brand of luck and fail!]
You're probably justified in worrying. Usually if things start going wrong, CERES makes sure they go wrong completely. They are thorough at least!
[Komaeda that's not something to sound impressed by. But he nods with a smile at the next question.] I am. I'm not used to parties like this, but it's very nice, seeing everyone so festive. What about you, Naegi-kun?
[Komaeda admits, glancing around.] It's fancier than what I'm used to anyway, but I'm not used to parties in general.
[A laugh and a shrug. He's not a popular guy. Doesn't get invited to many things. Though that has been changing. Komaeda blinks a moment later though.]
Mm! Of course. It's just a bowtie, right? [Shall he give you a hand here, Tenka?] I could show you.
[But it's Komaeda.] But... wouldn't that ruin your formal aesthetic?
[Komaeda will be optimistic, since it's Hinata. He lets himself be pulled along, keeping up, keeping close. He smiles at the reminder of that party. Even if they hadn't danced, it had been a nice party, hadn't it? Spending time with Hinata always is, since all that time ago.]
Mm! It'd be a waste not to make the best of this opportunity.
[So once they're out on the floor, Komaeda steps in close, hesitating only a moment before lifting his arm and draping it around Hinata's shoulders. It's okay, right?]
[Komaeda doesn't mind amusement, especially if it comes with help! He could probably manage to get his hand back with effort and sheer dumb luck, but it might have taken him most of the night. And cost him a fair number of cuts and bruises or worst.
So he does appreciate the help, even if the sudden lightning strike has him jumping. He can't help it. He's skittish. His luck and being struck by lightning seem like a dangerous combination. But the lightning hits the tree, and that's much better.]
Aaah! That's really amazing!
[But yes then there's tossing, and he will try to catch it. But let's just face it, it's going to smack him straight in the, well, face. Yes. Ouch. But no okay he's good. Let him just pick this up.]
[Komaeda will appreciate not being told about how there are worse sentient trees out there. With his luck, just mentioning it would have the trees uprooting and coming for them just now.]
Maybe just a little. Someone like me wouldn't have been that great at it even with two hands, unfortunately.
[So much useless fit into one wild-haired package. He offers a smile as his prosthetic is handed over. He cradles it close.]
Ah... Nagito Komaeda! [And here he ducks a very polite bow in return.] It's a pleasure to meet you. And than you again. I'm very grateful. Though... you didn't wind up injured did you? [No tree got him? Komaeda would feel bad if it was because of him.]
[She takes pride in her skills. Maybe a little too much - but she can at least say that she's never accidentally electrocuted someone, or rather, she would if she knew that's what Komaeda was worrying about. (It's always been on purpose.)
...urk. Too bad she can't say the same for throwing things.]
Oh, uh, oops. Sorry.
[She feels a bit of motion at her feet and looks down to where one of the roots is shuffling around, then makes a face and stomps on it before heading over to him. ...maybe they should just keep moving.]
[Komaeda is rubbing at his face as he bends down, stopping only to retrieve his prosthetic, cradling it carefully as he stands up.] Oh no, not at all! I really appreciate the help! It's not your fault I'm useless at things like catching.
[Or most everything else. Ah well.
He watches her stomp that root though.] The trees don't seem to be done playing though. I wonder how they got invited to such a nice event. Maybe they're party crashers.
[Be that as it may, there were probably better ways of getting the hand back to him than throwing it... he was already missing a hand, after all. But Sheba doesn't really have the energy to argue about whether he is or isn't useless.]
Wouldn't we be the party crashers? It takes time for trees to grow... they were probably here first.
[And also none of them are from the colony, but hey.]
It didn't hurt you or anything? It seemed like those things had a pretty solid grip.
I suppose that's one way to look at it. Still, we aren't the ones trying to pull people apart, so that is a strike against them.
[Minor detail. Either way, this is not the best atmosphere for a dance when the garden is becoming dangerous and apparently ravenous.]
It definitely had a grip, but it only really got a hold of my prosthetic hand, so I'm not hurt. [Speaking of, he will be fitting that back on as he takes a few steps backwards.] I was lucky you came along.
That's for sure. They should be glad we're not getting a bunch of gardeners in here.
[Or lumberjacks... the bane of a tree's existence. Then again, maybe there's some trick to handling those things that they just don't know about.]
Whew! I'm glad you're alright. [She smiles faintly.] I almost didn't go out for a walk, but it seems like it's a good thing I did... [They need to just institute the buddy system or something, at this rate.] ...other than losing your hand for a little bit, is your night going okay?
[It'd been a great party, especially considering the place, the circumstances in which they'd been in... and he coaxes Komaeda in close, completely amendable to that arm around his shoulders.
His hand is holding at his other one still, and he sets his hand at his waist.]
You wanna dance like this? [He sounds pleased... if a little shy.]
Exactly. Though I wonder if I should add weedkiller to my arsenal now...
[He's only half joking. OKay. In fact he's probably considering it quite practically. He's a bit broken after his stay in Haven. He should have expected homicidal plants. He has run into a few before, just, not here. ANd not quite like this.]
It was definitely lucky that you happened along. [His luck at work again? He wonders.]
Other than having my hand stolen, it's going very well! I'm not used to fancy parties, so I'm a little out of place, but it's a good atmosphere anyway. Are you having a good time?
[Really, Oz. Have you considered party planning? You've got a knack for the assembling a dessert plate part of it.]
Though... are you enjoying the party spending your time helping someone like me with this? Ah... that's not to say I'm not grateful for the advice. I definitely am. [Look at those desserts Komaeda is totally psyched.]
[That's his true calling in life, someone else can pick up this lame shonen hero schtick...]
I am! [The plate will be handed out toward him after Oz moseys his way back over, and it definitely doesn't seem like he's lying about that.] I've gotten to dance with people and enjoy the music and food too, so now I can say I've really experienced everything!
Me? Well, I'm enjoying myself so far, although I have to admit I've never really been to anything this formal...I'm not really skilled in things like dancing, because of that.
[ He's never had any reason to learn. ]
But the food is pretty good, and it's nice to be outside.
